Lecture on Japanese printmaking by Ayomi Yoshida
Taki ('Waterfall'), large installation by Ayomi Yoshida, 2024
The KVVAK (RAAS) and the SJA cordially invite their members to a special lecture by Ayomi Yoshida on Japanese printmaking and three generations of female printmakers from the Yoshida family of artists.
Recently, Ayomi Yoshida donated 17 works on paper to the Rijksmuseum, created by herself, her mother Chizuko Yoshida, and her grandmother Fujio Yoshida. Together, the donated works tell the story of these three generations of women in the Yoshida family. The Yoshida family is a well-known family of artists in Japan, but most attention has gone to the male relatives, with Hiroshi, Hodaka and Toshi Yoshida usually in the spotlight.
Ayomi will elaborate on how her mother and grandmother developed as artists and how their artworks were created in a society and period, where such freedoms were not always accessible to women. For the presentation, currently still on display at the Asian Pavilion, Ayomi also created two new artworks: Sudden Rain and Taki ('Waterfall'), on which she will shed light in this lecture.
Marije Jansen, Curator of Japanese Prints at the Rijksmuseum, will elaborate on the donation after which she will engage in conversation with Ayomi Yoshida. Near the end there will be a Q&A with Menno Fitski, Head of Asian Art at the Rijksumuseum.
After the event, you are invited to join us for drinks and chats.
