Andon 25
Spring 1987

EDITORIAL: This new year of our magazine Andon coincides with the Society's fiftieth anniversary. This landmark was appropriately celebrated with a comprehensive exhibition of Meiji arts, held in The Hague. In connection with this exhibition, an international colloquium on aspects of continuity and change in the arts and crafts of that period was organized. The proceedings of that colloquium are presently being edited and wil! appear in the forthcoming issue 27/28 of our magazine. For the moment, this issue brings again what is envisaged to be an exciting and varied contents. In addition to the slightly obligatory - though written with due enthusiasm - history of the Society, there are articles on one single print, a sumo wrestlers' portrait by Shunshō, and the report of an investigation into the early days of Japanese interest in The Netherlands, a presentation of an enterprising dealer with a keen eye for interest in curiosities.
