On 30 July 2022 Leiden University graduate Killian van der Kraan received the first Heinz Kaempfer Fund Thesis Award with his master’s thesis The Concept of Cultural Hybridity and its Application on Architect Kengo Kuma’s Personhood and Constructions (Asian Studies Programme, December 2021). The award carries a prize of 1000 Euros. In addition, Killian will be given the opportunity to publish his findings in Andon, the journal of the Society for Japanese Art. A choice of books from Brill Publishers to the amount of 200 Euros is also part of the Award. The jury is an international panel of distinguished scholars and curators chaired by Menno Fitski, curator of East Asian art at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Menno Fitski, chairman of the jury, summarized the findings of the jury. The award was handed over to Killian van der Kraan by Anna Beerens.
