EDITORIAL: Certainly some of our readers wíll notice, undoubtedly much to their surprise, that this is already Andon 29. That is correct or, at least, not an unintended mistake. We have promised the publication of the presentations at the Society's symposium 'Japanese art in an age of transition', and we keep to that promise. However, since preparation of the proceedíngs takes more attention than originally envisaged, the combined issue number 27/28 will only be published later this year. For the moment, you can already get some of the flavour in reading Jan van Bremen's presentation, elaborating on the results of combining oriental and ethnological studies. This issue would almost seem one on the theme of combinations. Another contribution, that of Isabel Tanaka-van Daalen, presents us with a note on an exhibition of contemporary Japanese goldleather which was held in Japan, some time ago now. Lastly, Richard Lane investigates 'certain neglected aspects in the work of that demon student of all art-forms' and I trust our readers will have little problems guessing who that might be. (There is only one correct answer, so I won't keep you from reading any longer).
