EDITORIAL: In this issue Japanese craftmanshíp takes a predominent place. In fact the majority of the articles investigate various aspects of the great tradition of Japanese crafts. Elizabeth Frolet, author of a monograph on Yanagi Sōetsu, reconstructs his philosophical development, his contacts in the Japanese Mingei movement and with the potter Bernard Leach. Of a very different nature, but of great interest to collectors of paintings and all those admiring Japanese craftmanship, is Sadatoshi Miura's report on the boxes for preserving paintings. Richard Kruml in his contribution proposes an earlier date for the invention of registration marks which was crucial for the development of colour printíng.
